Why PH is so important for gout sufferers (layman's terms)
Body Ph is measured on a scale from 0-14. Seven is neutral, a middle balance
between
acid (lower numbers) and alkaline (higher numbers). All body processes, from
eating &
drinking to exercise & body cell turnover, creates acid. This acid must be
removed from
the body. The two biggest organs responsible for this removal are the kidneys
and the
lungs. In order for the body to expel acidic waste, and not damage the kidneys
and other
organs during removal, the waste must be made neutral. (Note: Your body cannot
and will
not remove acid waste without neutralizing it first! ) Minerals, especially
calcium,
magnesium and potassium, buffer or neutralize the acidic wastes because they are
alkaline. If not enough minerals are gleaned from the diet, the body will begin
to take
minerals and nutrients from your bones and muscle. An acid diet will also
prevent further
absorption of these same minerals and nutrients from your food, therefore making
the
body PH even more acidic. (Only at a neutral, optimal balance of between 7 and
7.5, can all
these minerals nutrients be absorbed from what you are eating.)
Meat, fish, sugar, pastries, candy, white rice, Alcohol, white bread and flour
products,
cigarettes, some medications, coffee, caffeinated beverages, soda, and most
medications
are acid forming. Nearly all fruits and vegetables are alkaline forming. The key
here is
balance. We gout people have trouble getting rid of the extra uric acid in our
systems. It's
of utmost importance that we help our bodies neutralize it through an alkalizing
diet, so
we can get rid of it more efficiently. So get some PH hydrion test paper. Check
either your
urine or saliva. Do it often. You'll be helping yourself not only to freedom
from gout, but
to health in general. Below are two books I highly recommend and a website I
found
invaluable. I just had a full health exam and have 'cured' myself of gout. (
"Cured" is a mis-
statement. I believe lack of gout is a mixture of proper PH balance, low uric
acid levels
and a diet that supports it. ) I hope this helps someone else as much as it's
helped me.
Sincerely, Michele
