What to eat
Hello!
I've still been having problems with the entire eating side of this equation.
I will be nine weeks post op on Tuesday. Things really are getting much
easier, but meat still isnt my friend and its making getting my protein in very
unpleasant and somewhat difficult. I am sick to death of protein shakes! Plus
I have been in plateau hell for 2 weeks now and I know its because I am not
eating enough. Over the past couple of days I have been on a mission to find
things that I can eat, that I actually WANT to eat, and wanted to share what I
have discovered so far.
I wrote yesterday about Braum's milk and how it has 50% more protein than
other brands. I've also bought some Carnation Instant breakfast (CIB). Where I
live, they only make the sugar free in chocolate flavor and I was really
wanting some variety. I have been lucky so far and havent experienced any
trouble
with dumping, so I said to heck with worrying about the 20 grams of sugar in
the CIB and bought myself a variety pack - I decided it was more important to
get my protein in than it was to worry about the amount of sugar I am eating
and comparitively, 20 grams isnt that much. Even diluted fruit juice (which I
could have from day one) has as much sugar in it. So I take one packet of CIB
(5 grams of protein), 1 cup of Braums FF Milk (12 grams of protein) and 1/3
cup of dry, instant milk (8 grams of protein) shake it all up and it makes a
delicious shake that doesnt taste near as horrid as "protein shakes" and it has
a
total of 25 grams of protein. If you have trouble with sugar, or just dont
want to risk it, you can do the same thing with the sugar free CIB.
Another thing I have found that I really like and that my pouch really likes
is Campbell's Select Italian Style Wedding Soup. It comes in a ready to eat
can with 2 servings of 1 cup each. Even though I cannot eat much solid food at
once (maximum 1/2 cup before my pouch starts hurting) I can slowly eat the
entire can of this soup over about an hour. It has tiny meatballs, spinach and
some kind of little tiny firm pasta in chicken broth. The whole can has 16
grams of protein, 6 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fat, plus a good amount of
vitamin A and a smidge of calcium and iron. I really love the way it tastes and
it
is very smooth and easy on my pouch.
Hope some of my finds can help you out too!
