The Effect of Our Gout on Our Loved Ones
Bank holiday in the UK today (Monday), so we had a fair bit planned, some
fence painting and patio cleaning in the morning, a cycle ride in the
afternoon, cinema in the evening.
That was before I woke up with a left knee so racked in pain that I felt
like chopping my leg off at the hip.
Two arguments and 200mg of diclofenac later, with me being crabby because of
the pain and the wife disappointed that our day was wrecked, we've settled
on the holiday being totally wasted.
(I am on Allo by the way, 400mg a day, have been for about six weeks now,
after my last gout free period of about a year it turned round and bit me
good, and that was the last straw really, decided hard drugs was the only
thing I had left).
Have to say, early on in my gout career there was a definite dismissing of
my condition from the wife. She blamed my weight gain for my gout, but I now
blame my gout for my weight gain (although I'm not sure she sees my point of
view at all). Vicious cycle of pain and little or no exercise because of
pain I figure.
However, as I learned more about gout from this group, and was able to pass
this on to my partner, the understanding has grown (I think); although until
you've experienced the pain I figure someone without gout might feel like
those with it are playing the attacks up a bit, after all there's little
visible evidence of anything happening inside your joints.
I hope this is the last of it for us this time around, pattern for me seems
left toe, left ankle, right ankle, right knee and finally left knee (which
its in now).
Anyone else who's gout is causing strife in their relationships?
I used to have gout pain and she had PMT
My gout caused me to have pain and make irrational decisions, dont know what her
excuse was :-)
