he has had gout attacks on/off for about 15 years. he did used to
drink lots of alcholol, now he does not, only when we go camping.
but, after this last attack, he said he is done.
what is the controversy about taking alluprinol anyways?
the last time, he had an attack on his hand, we had a blood test
done. his regular doc was not in at the time, went to someone else,
he said he injured it. than a week later, went to someone else, and
said, yes it was a gout attack, and had his uric acid level checked,
at the time, it was at 8.6. he finally has mobility, on his index
finger and thumb. so, he thinks he is going back to work tomorrow.
he thinks that he actually, injured his hand at work, and caused
trauma to his hand. but he does that all day long, anyways. he is
extremely strong, been shoeing horses for over 40 some years. plus,
being a pipefitter, welder, plumber all that time, so, you can see,
he overuses his hands alot.
thanks again.
i can only remind him, but i am becoming a nag, about his water
drinking.

Sheryl - you raise an interesting point. Alcohol and injured joints
is not a good combination, even for a non-gout sufferer.
If you have an injury, like you strain the joints anywhere in the
body, excessive alcohol will make it worse, because of the rasied
uric acid levels and other factors, like immune system compromise,
whether you are a gout sufferer or not!

I have just returned from vacation to Italy and can report that I have eaten all the wrong foods "fried anchovies" drank red wines and can report several twinges in all the old familiar places but one interesting thing i did have was a pain running down my back through my leg and ending at the bottom of my shin. I just read about the nerve ends being affected and wondered if this was what was happening. Allk I know is that without the "A" train ride i would be suffering gout again. Dont get me wrong I am not doing all of the above to excess just doing it again. Ever since I had been confirmed as a goutite I had become nervous of all the trigger foods. I can now eat all of these but still know that I could go for my long walks the next day.
My next phase is to do the big weight loss and up the exercise regime, but I am ready for it now.
Have a good weekend all
Tony
Tony,
It feels so good doesn't it??? Wait til you get that weight down and
start exercising!!! I thought I was never going to be able to eat all
the things I love or exercise or heavily exert myself again. Is it
such a surprise why all of us A-train passengers have such conviction
when it comes to arguing A-train vs. Herbal??
