hypovitaminosis

Dear Lori H.,
Here's the explanation of hypovitaminosis:
Hypovitaminosis is a condition of vitamin deficiency in the body. This means
that the vitamin levels are sufficiently high to prevent severe diseases,
but they are insufficient for the maintenance of health. The reasons for
vitamin deficiency may be of primary nature, such as poor and unpredictable
dietary intake and incomplete utilization of vitamins. Other causes of
vitamin deficiency are increased needs for vitamins in physical exertion,
during pregnancy and lactation, in the period of growth, in infectious
diseases, and in increased needs for vitamins during lactation, in profuse
sweating and diarrhea.
