Gout is such an easy thing to deny after months of no attack?
I read the posts often on this site and when I am having an attack I am
on it daily. I am realizing how I go into denial between attacks and
wonder if other people do also? I sometimes feel like I will never have
another attack, which is such denial. My mother had Gout and suffered
with it more and more as she aged.
It has been over 6 months since my last and worse attack that last
almost three months. I have had three attacks in two years, and each
one gets worse.
I made a list of things I need to do to get back on track and stop
denying I have a problem...just wondered if others slip into such
denial?

Hi Sandra,
You say you had an attack that lasted 3 months. What was going on
during those 3 months? I can't imagine you were in intense pain for
three months. I'm just getting over my second attack in two years. I
was in agony for one week before I went to the doctor and got a shot.
The attack has gradually stopped over this past week although I still
get twinges in the toe area.
Yes, I believe I was in denial after going two years without an
attack. That's easy to do about anything that's not bothering you.
They say the attacks get worse the longer you have gout but this
second attack was actually easier than my first. I'm considering
going on the alloupril (sp?). I'm going to discuss it with my doctor.
More men have this than ladies......why are we so lucky???

My first attack was by far my worst, and lasted five
to six weeks. It affected nearly my entire left ankle
(started in the big toe and "moved up"). Then I
didn't have another attack for about four years(!).
The second attack again started in the big toe and
moved up to the ankle -- again, my left. It was much
milder than my first attack and only lasted about 5-6
days. My third gout attack afflicted the middle
knuckle of my right hand (I am sure it was a gout
attack, by the way -- there is no mistaking the
quality of that sort of pain), and went away in a few
days, thank goodness.
Recently, I had my left ankle swell up for several
days, and it was very stiff and tight. No pain,
though, so I guess that wasn't a gout attack.
