Aspartame Users!
*crosspost*
I was a diehard Crystal Lite drinker, figuring that because it was 0
calories and counted as part of my daily fluid intake I was doing
myself good. After hitting a looooong plateau and talking with my
surgeon I was told that aspartame can actually slow weightloss. I
also did some reading and (according to Dr. Atkins and others) found
this to be a common belief.
If you are finding it hard to lose weight and are relying on drinks
that contain aspartame, you may want to reevaluate your choices. I
switched from Crystal Lite to Propel (by Gatorade) and Fruit2O. Both
of these drinks are sweetened with sucralose (Splenda), which does
not seem to carry the same side affects as aspartame and other
artificial sweeteners. Propel is good, but does contain some carbs,
whereas Fruit20 (a VeriFine product) has 0 Carbs.
I should add that once I refrained from drinking Crystal Lite and
added an extra 1/2 mile on my bike, plus one additional protein shake
per day, I broke my plateau and am now only 3 lbs away from hitting
that century mark.

Hi,,,my first post..I go for my first psych meeting today and first meeting with
the surgeon next week, so I don't know much but I do know that Crystal Light in
the bottles are sweetened by Splenda, while the little cans still have
aspertane. On Splenda.com they list foods sweetened with Splenda. Hugs to all
for the great info..Big hugs..MJ
Everyone, check the labels, some of the Crystal Light flavors are
sweetened with Sucrolose (Splenda brand sweetner). If you are a Crystal
Light fan, look for the ones not sweetened with Aspartame.

wooo hooo thx MJ
I did think the crystal light in the bottles already made were sweetened with
Splenda. I am so happy because I intend on getting a lot of my water intake
this way. I hate plain water but I will force myself to drink it as long as I
put a piece of lemon or lime in the water I can choke it down LOL. I know
... I know I am one big baby LOL. Thanks for the info MJ

Lori Ann, don't feel bad. I have to choke down my water everyday (I'm
doing it now). I do drink ice tea sweetened with sacchrine (I even
prefer that to aspartame). Unfortunately, I have to moderate my intake
of sucralose because it does a number on my stomach big time. At one
point, I was using Crystal Light almost exclusivly for my water and but
now I limit my sucralose sweetened crystal light to 16oz per day or less
and I just bang down the plain water.
I'm not sure if the surcralose intolerance is WLS related or not,
because I never drank it pre-op.
