no, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that regret having
the surgery and rightly so. I do feel bad for some of the problems
they have experienced, but they seem to really resent the fact that
others have had success. I don't know why I lurk there. Maybe to
better appreciate how happy I can actually be about my life.
I'm really pushing for that card, Lori! Gonna weight tomorrow

well the 22nd I go for my sleep study. Then the nutritionist and Ill be on my

but if I do I just have to take it in stride and go forward with it. I have an
angel that will be with me and help me out so I am relieved about that. Sure
do hope this happens quickly. I am ready to get on the losing side!

Finally after sitting here all day they called at 4:30 pm. I am first one on
the list on Wednesday the 23rd. I have to be at BTC at 6:00 am. I am glad I am
first then maybe I won't get bumped because it gets too late or something. I
have a feeling this is going to be the longest weekend in the history of man. I
already have everything ready to go. I should of waited to do that this weekend
so I could pass the time. Maybe the family and I can go see a movie of
something this weekend. Anyone seen any good ones lately that you would
recommend. I want to thank everyone for all their wonderful help. Everything
from snowcone machines to surgery tips. I have soaked all your knowledge up and
hope that I am ready. I feel ready and positive that this is the right thing to
do. Thanks again.

Hello everyone, it's a beautiful day in WI. Today I had my 3 mos. check-up
and the Dr. is very pleased with my progress and the nurse was suprised.
Offically, I have lost 70 pounds (Although the doctors digital scale seems to
weigh
about 3 pounds heavier than the Doctors scale at Curves, but hey I'm still
pleased.). I also had some blood work done to track how I'm doing with the
vitamins and I am inemic(sp). I don't see my doctor again for 3 mos. That kind
of
surprised me, but I guess you have to start tapering off the visits.
Everyone have a great weekend.

Any ideas for soft diet other than the usual?

Im only 10 weeks out and so far post op life sucks, but thats suppose to get
better.
I did talk to a woman who had it done 20 years ago. She told me that it was
the best thing she had ever done for herself and that everything had gone
fine. She was around 55 or so, so she would have been in her 30s when she had
it
done.
Hope that helps some!
~ami~
I have been on just about every group asking if there is anyone who
can share an experience on a negative note. Either no one has had a
bad experience with this surgery or they are not around to talk about
it. Some may think I am crazy for even asking but....If i am going to
make this life changeing decision i want to know the goods and the
bads of it. I want to know what to expect in 5, 10, 15, years from
now. What will be going on in my body. I am getting a little
discouraged that there is no one out there who can help me. Starting
to think well maybe no one who gets this surgery lives that long.
SO I am asking if you know of anyone or are someone who i am looking
to chat with please write me, or have them write me.
I am currently on the waiting list to see the surgeon, which i was
told is a 6 month wait. In that waiting time i would like to find out
as much information as possible.
Thanks!
I haven't heard about the 30 grams in 2 hours but the max, 1/2 hours
about the protein drinks I have heard.
I'll ask at support group on Monday and see what people know.
Although harldy anyone in our group uses protein drinks as our post
op plan does not use them.
Chris D.
You need to call the surgeon and ask. Usually time release meds
don't work because they are not absorbed enough.
Chris D.
I am so sad and frustrated right now. I am almost 10 weeks post op and today
after eating one tiny bite of chicken (baked) and a few bites of mashed
potatoes, I vomitted - but only after having horrible
feel-like-Im-dying-and-wish-I-would stomach pain. My pouch still feels kind
of icky. I am so tired of
this!! I feel very foolish though. I researched this surgery very carefully
and
I was ready. Or atleast I thought I was. I honestly, naively, thought that
I wouldnt have any trouble eating per say. I thought I would eat a tiny bit,
feel full and that would be that. I thought if I followed my eating schedule
and only ate foods I was suppose to, I would be OK. Of course now I know
that
isnt true. I can eat one bite of a food I ate yesterday with no trouble, and
then suffer for hours with the same food today. I can take tiny bites and
chew and chew and chew and still get sick. All you seasoned post ops....will
this ever stop? Will I ever stop asking myself why I did this to myself? I
know I sound pitiful and I am admittedly sitting on my pity pot today. I am
just
so tired of my entire life revolving around what my pouch feels like each
day.

Hi All,
I am still in the beginning stages of the WLS program and expect a
winter surgery date.
I am wondering...
- Is there anyone who regrets having the surgery?
- What is the worst complication you've heard of, besides death?
- For those with small children, how long after an open procedure
do you get back to being yourself? I have lots of support, but
I'm still worried about being able to care for them myself.
I am so happy to have found this group. You all have helped me more
than you know. Sorry for the negative questions, but I want to be
sure I have covered every angle.
Thanks!

i bet they did b/c the surgeon is the one that ordered it - i'll call right
now and see what they say - plus i don't think i have sleep apnea - it was a
split test - halfway through if i had apnea he was going to hook me to the
CPAP and they didn't so.....i'm probably screwed and will end up with ALL
these pre-op tests.

Dear Diana,
I'm not sure where I read it, but I know they tell us at our monthly support
meeting that 30 grams is the max absorbable protein intake in a two hour
sitting and that powder stuff made into drinks only lasts 1/2 hour then it
loses its potency. Chris? Caroline? Any further info on this? If not,
I'll ask in my support group (in two weeks) and find out there.

Hello. Its Jake from Buffalo, NY. I have not posted in quite a

Hope to hear from all of you soon!

Hey Deb
I don't know of you were referring to me, but yes, I was very sore
after surgery. I felt like a truck had hit me! But after about 4
days, the soreness turned into a nagging ache that I could easily
deal with. After about 2 weeks, it only hurt when I turned my body
certain ways, or tried to pick up something I shouldn't have. :)

Congrats girl! I know you can't wait! My very good friend is coming

My scales don't like me either-I weigh every morning-just to keep
myself in tow and I too flucuate a pound or two but, have been stuck
going on two weeks now with the same number. It does get frustrating
but, I have made my mind up that as long as I do not gain-I am OK. In
a post yesterday, I was told that muscle weighs more than fat and if
I am exercising I could be gaining muscle-yet losing fat. So I am
going with this one just to pasify myself. As far as the hair goes-I
am losing mine also but, not as drastic as it sounds like you are. I
got a perm last week just to hide my thin spots better and my
hairdresser gave me good news. She told me I have a ton of new growth-
little sprigs all over the place. So as long as new is coming in to
replace what is falling out-I guess I will never be totally bald. I
asked her what I could do-she said nothing except keep taking the
vitamins that I am and doing the protein. She said there is nothing
any hairdresser can do-this reaction is coming from the inside so
NOTHINg you do to the outside will help. A friend of mine that had
the WLS has gotten so bad, she has bought a wig-thank GOD mine hasn't
gotten to that point yet.
Welcome Deb!
I am 42 and had my surgery 5-1/2 months ago. It's been an awesome
ride and 133 lbs later, it just gets better and better. I am 5'9 and
started at 442 lbs, so I definitely know your weight woes.
I am so sorry to hear of your lack of family support and compassion.
Have you even just let go and tell them how much they hurt you?
Maybe they just don't realize it. If they are somewhat overweight, I
guarantee you they are facing the fact that they may have to go the
same route some day. They don't want to see how successful you will
be, because then they have to face reality. If you can muster it,
tell them you are going ahead of if they don't have anything positive
to say, to keep it to themselves and to quit the name calling. I
know you are their mother and feel you can't call them names back but
it might wake them up. All you have to do is get through to one of
them and the rest might fall in place.
My mom was the only one I told at the start. She was scared but
supportive as she knew I could not continue on the train I was on. I
did not want to tell my brothers at that point. It was hard for her
to say nothing but she didn't. She did talk to a few of her friends
about it, which was fine. She needed someone to talk to about her
emotions. What shocked her is how positive all her friends were.
You would think people in their 70's and 80's would see this as some
new fangled thing and "why does she need to do that". But most knew
someone who had it done and were very supportive. It helped her be
more comfortable.
Once I had insurance approval she asked if she could tell my
brothers. One of them that I thought would think it ridiculous,
surprised me and drove a couple hours to come see me in the
hospital. Shocked the heck out of me. I thought my oldest brother
would think it was drastic etc. He is into all natural everything.
Well his reaction was "thankgoodness". He said he had been so
worried that I would maybe die of a heart problem etc. The 3rd
brother was faily quiet but supportive. Two of my brothers are in
the category of being faced with maybe making a similar decision one
day. So it also was a slap in the face. My sister-in-law is one who
would greatly benefit also. Who knows, once she sees how I eat she
may have a different opinion. When she found I don't eat much for
refined carbs she was like, but their are the best. I would have
agreed before surgery, but for some reason they no longer control my
life and I also do not crave them. I have them when I want, but
because I am comfortable with post-op life I just don't focus on them
any more. When I look for food now, it's just automatically protein.
Please feel free to e-mail me as I am more than willing to be one of
your supports and offer what info I can about surgery and after
life. I live in Oshkosh, WI, so not too far from you. I don't
normally get down that way, but who knows maybe we could meet
somewhere sometime.
Just know that there will be lots of people on this website who will
gladly provide you loving support and not judge you or call you
derogatory names!
I hope you have a wonderful day!

In my opinion - If you can tolerate it, you can eat it! At first try
it with the casing removed. If that works then maybe try it au
natural. I haven't eaten any, but have eaten an orange section or
two and I have been eating grapes with the skin since about 4 months
PO. Just chew very well and take small bites.
The only caution is if you are on any medications that caution
against grapefuit. Seems to interact or lessen the effect of some
meds.

I looked on their website and the high protein smoothies listed start
at 380 calories and average about 30 g's of protein and they look to
have alot of carbs and fat... Are these ok to have?
Just leafed through the ins booklet and found the exclusion which
states:
"What your program does not cover: ...treatment of obesity or morbid
obesity, including surgery and its complications, services and
supplies connected with weight loss and weight control. This
exclusion applies even if you have an illness or injury which might be
helped by weight loss."
So, I think that sums it up from their point of view...kind of harsh
sounding, but not all companies have updated their views on this type
of thing. Any more ideas would be great! Thanks again for walking me
through this so far.

I went for my first post-op appointment today and everything went great...I have
lost 27 pounds since my surgery on June 23, 2003, 4 inches around my waist and 1
inch around my hips. I was told that is good. But I was hoping for a bigger
weight lost. I told him I have not lost any in a week and a half and he told
me to weigh only once a week and I told him that was going to be hard because I
like to see what I weigh everyday. But I will try to stay off the scales and
weigh only once a week. He did tell me to start taking Vitamin E because my
skin is to dry...He told me to keep up the good work and I will go back in two
months. Just thought I would tell someone... Thanks for listening.

Okay I'm probably falling into the trap i warn everyone else about...BUT I'm
stressing out. I've been weighing myself every day... which staying the same
weight or fluxuating doesn't bother me, I know its part of it. but my scale
has actually said i've GAIINED weight! First day, didn't think too much about
it, but this is like the 3rd day and it has only gone up not down (when i
fluxuate it goes both directions). I ahven't made any changes in my
diet...although I do realize i can eat more than i used to, although it still
isn't that
much. wearing, albeit a heavy long denim skirt, my scale said 229! (I was 223
3 days ago). its not that time of the month, so it shouldn't be that. The
few lbs aren't what bother me so much as the trend...I've put myself back on
liquids just to see if that will help... all soups today..although one had
veggies in it, but i was careful to chew chew chew like we are supposed to do.
OKay, just had to vent.
Now, my second problem. I have losing ALL MY HAIR!! I knew it was a side
effect, but I didn't think I would really lose that much. I pull it out in
handfuls (and not just little ones). I HATE washing my hair, because the
hairloss
is just awful. And brushing my hair afterwards..yuck. I am getting protein,
i don't think that is the issue. I'm just wondering if any one else has had
a problem with severe loss, and if/what they have done for it. Iam currently
using the Nioxin, which I like, and helps my hair feel more full... I had A
LOT of hair before surgery, so i was never really concerned...but when I was
washing my hair i realized how thin it really is :( Anyways, suggestions would
be appreciated :)

Lia,
Also if Alaska has a state Rehabilitation Office, you might try them. I
had mine done in TX through the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. Try it,
it never hurts! Happy hunting and good luck.

I thought you guys might be interested in these guidelines. Maybe I should
amend my goal further ...
Women's Body Fat Percentage Guidelines
Essential Fat = 10-12%
Athletes = 14-20%
Fitness = 21-24%
Acceptable = 25-31%
Obese = 32%+
Men's Body Fat Percentage Guidelines
Essential Fat = 2-4%
Athletes = 6-13%
Fitness = 14-17%
Acceptable = 18-25%
Obese = 25%+
hey lia, my policy also excluded everything "obesity" related.
HOWEVER, i wasn't obese, i was morbidly obese. & everyone told me
that i would be denied(even the docs), but was approved in days.
it was still a lot of work & the road wasn't easy.

Dear Denise,
If you have The Vitamin Shoppe local to you, they carry, or can order, the
Champion product for you. They also carry their own brand of protein (body
tech or something like that) that's very, very similar to the Champion and
costs less.

Well, just called the ins co and was told obesity surgery is a
standard exclusion, won't be covered at all. I guess that ends the
journey for now unless anyone has any words of wisdom. I know other
people who have ins through the State of AK also, I guess for whatever

Hi Everyone! I finally feel as though I am making some kind of progress in
my journey. I went to my PCP last Thurs. and he agrees with my decision to
have WLS. He gave me a referral to the surgeon and is writing my letter of
necessity and I should be able to pick it up this week. I went to my
ob/gyn yesterday and he signed the letter that I had prepared and said I
wrote a very good letter (he's been my dr. for 15 yrs. and knows about my
struggles more than the pcp). When I got back to work, I phoned Cleveland
Clinic in Weston and told them that I had my referral and wanted to make the
appt. to see the surgeon. They had a cancellation!!! I am meeting with Dr.
Szomstein @ 8:00 a.m. Monday morning. The receptionist said I would need to
be there at 7:30 a.m. and I said "No problem"! I have my psyc. eval.
scheduled for 7/23. Things are finally moving along for me. Thanks
everyone for the support that I find on this site!

Hi,
I had my surgery on Tuesday 7/8 & all went well. The first day after
was hell, but each day gets better. Has any one experienced alot of
gas after surgery and does it go away? Also when I try to lay flat
in a regular bed I seem to get something that comes back up my
throat & makes me choak. Doea any body have any answers to this as
well?
I am now on protein drinks, liquids & 3 1oz. meals of pureed food.
for the next six weeks. Any meal suggestions would be appreciated.
Any words of wisdom & answer to my questions would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks

hehe, i don't know if you meant the "butting in" to be a pun or not, but I
thought it was pretty funny :) Our newer buildings all had the plastic swivel
chairs you were talking about. I actually prayed for classes with those (as
opposed to thost stupid other desks). But they are not easy to get in and out
of, and two people sitting next to eachother can't get up at the same
time..hehe.. but I like the tables b/c they have lots of room to spread out
(which I
tend to do). Congrats on pursuing your education too! What is your major? I'm
finally free of the desks, I am attending the U of Phoenix online now and
working on my MBA in Health Care Management. So far it has been very
challenging
and a lot of work, but I like the flexibility it offers, and being able to
attend class in my pj's at 2am..hehe :) Take care and thanks for the response

Congrats on starting your journey. My advice is to just read read read.
Join in the group discussions (plan for Disney if you can..hehe) and just soak
up
information and most of all, work on patience. It is so hard when you know
what you want to do and then being told you have to wait. But your time will
come, and it will be worth the wait. If you have any questions along the way,
pipe up and ask! Also, it a good idea to write down any questions you have
and take them to your consult with your surgeon :)

Hey everybody,
i was just wondering where you all bought your protein shakes. I went to GNC
and looked but they were mighty expensive. Like $34 for 20. Is that a good
price. I have had the Vita Trim shakes and they were good but they were given
to me and don't know where they got them from.

Today I called my surgeons office (Dr. I) today to see if he got the
letter from my PCP. I got a chance to chat with him. He got my
letter from my PCP that if he sees that I lost some weight that he
would say yes to the surgery. However, my PCP has some reservations
on it. So Dr. I and I decided that I would continue seeing the
nutritionist on an routine basis. I would get regular documentation
that I have seen a nutritionist. In the meantime Dr. I will send my
info to the insurance company. If I get approved by my surgery and I
can convience my PCP that I should have it done then yes Dr. I will go
ahead with it. If not Dr. I wont do it. My question is should I
change PCP's to Dr. Christidis who is accepting new patients and is
all for this procedure? Maybe I should just stay with my existing PCP
and go to the Nutritionist. I dont know what to do! Even Carl is out
of suggestions. He doesnt like the PCP either. I am so fustrated and
sad and cant stop crying! I am afraid I will never beable to have this
surgery!!!!

I've picked up my meds, and post-op foods (liquids), so all I have
left to do is finsh packing. I really am a lot calmer than I

Hi Lori Anne,
I love Disney and I've gone every year for the past 4 years and I'm going
again in November (1st to the 8th). I'm pulling my daughter out of school
for 2 days -- it's election day and teacher convention week in New Jersey,
so she'll only miss 2 days and I can teach her the stuff they'll cover
anyway -- got my teaching certificate in '77 even though I don't really use
it). I think your plan for next year is wonderful. What week are you
thinking of? I know having to work around school schedules is difficult
because that means we're traveling at prime prices, but what the heck.
Maybe I'll go again!

Dear Angie,
I use the Champion brand Pure Whey Stack powder. My favorite is the
chocolate. I just use one scoop, add 8 oz. of milk and 6 oz. of water and
it's good for 30 grams of protein. I mix with a spoon and, if the protein
floats to the top I skim it off. Sometimes I add some DaVinci syrup to it
and for some reason that makes it mix really creamy. I order it online from
muscledawg.com -- It's on sale this week, so a 5 lb. jar should run,
including shipping, $30. I find it tastes like Nestles Quick. If you're
not sure if you'll like it, you can order samples from vitalady.com but I'm
not sure the samples are the same product or not. They also sell a 2.2 lb.
jar and that one, with shipping, is around $26 or so. $4 more for an extra
3 lbs. seemed like a good deal to me once I tasted it and knew I would use
it.

I went back to the doctor today and was slapped in the face with more
bad news. Turns out that the cat scan they did Last friday(before
the 4th) picked something up. I have yet another leak!!! As some of
you know I have been fighting a staff infection in my incision. It
leaks fulid all the time. The doctor said that what I have been
drinking has been leaking out my infection site and thats why it's
not getting any better. So to fix it, I will be on tube feeding ONLY
for the next 3 weeks. Nothing by mouth! The doc says that way it
will form scar tissue around the leak and seal it. I hate that I did
this to myself, but as everyone says it's better than an early
grave. Hey, at least they don't have to cut me back open.

all of you that snored before your surgery, did any of you quit

I can only intake 8 oz of ice chips a day without getting sick. Surgery
was on June 11-2003. Now the surgeon has scheduled a UGI with Small bowel
follow through which requires an intake of 16+oz within 5 minutes. I called
the doctor back and he said it has to be down because of my continued
stomach cramps and nausea. How am I suppose to do this test without getting
sick? I called the hospital and they said if I can't drink it in 5 min the
test is useless. I've talk to the nurse 6 times today and she still insist
that the doctor has said there is no way out of this test. HELP!!!!

Sounds like you had some extra fear in that roller coaster ride! I'm so
sorry you had to experience that! The last time I went to six flags was years
ago
and although i was overweight, i wasn't at my top weight. I never thought
about not fitting on a ride, but when i would ride roller coasters with my neice
and nephew i was scared because they were so small trying to ride in the same
car as me, and the bar was soo roomy o them just to fit on me. I was more
scared for them. The most terrifying experience I had, was at Great America in
Cali, I was riding that boat ride, the revolution or something...it does 360
revolutions and sometimes it hangs upside down for quite a while and you kinda
have to lean with everyone to get it going... wellw e were stuck upside down
and i SWEAR i heard my harness pop... NOT something you want to hear hanging 3
stories off the ground upside down looking at all the mechanics unerneath you
knowing the boat would run you right over...hehe needless to say, i made it
throughthe ride, but i have never been on it again!

I lost my best friend by making this decision and having the surgery done. Some
people (as with AA changes) just cant handle it. To some, there is much comfort
in others being downcast, having a disability or being addicted. When that
comfort is taken away, its over. I told very few people about my upcoming RNY,
99% of them were against it. My strongest base of support came from post op
friends. Not only your body is going to change, your relationships will too. If
it takes that for me to be healthier and thinner.....so be it.

Since I've already shot off my big mouth and posted I thought I
should maybe say hi and introduce myself. I'm a single 47y/o male
from sunny southern California that underwent an open (non-
laparoscopic) Distal Gastric Bypass in March of 2003. The distal
procedure differs from the standard RNY in that it leaves more of
the stomach intact, including the exit valve at the base of the
stomach. This is to allow a more normal meal and
eliminate `dumping'. On the other hand more of the small intestine
is bypassed to prevent the absorption of fats leading to a
dependence on vitamin tablets for vitamins A & D. Oh well, trade-
offs have to be made.
So far in four months I've dropped over 60 lbs and have reached the
point of needing a bit of exorcize to drop weight at the speed I
want. I've also rediscovered the joy of bicycle riding, averaging 3-
4 miles a day. I feel 15 years younger and my type II diabetes is
pretty much history.
Anyway best of luck to all of you!

Hey All,
My name is Pam. I am 42 and in New Orleans, LA. I am waiting for a
surgery date. I have my insurance's blessing. It's driving me crazy
because I am so ready to be on the losing side of life..I have
started getting everything ready at home. I have been reading
anything and everything I can get my hands on. I just wanted to say
Hi and I am reading...LOL
Have A Great One!
Pam
I knew I would never get the support I neede from my family so I just didn't
tell them. My dh knows and my 2 closes friends know and that is it. Everyone
else just thinks I went into gall bladder surgery 2 months ago. I started
telling family members that I went on a diet a month before my surgery date. My
folks are teachers so we only see them during summer and winter break. I just
saw them for the first time 3 weeks ago they are so "proud" of me since I have
lost 60 plus pounds. I wish they would be "proud" of me because the way I raise
my kids, run my house or for some other reason then the superficial you look so
good. They would be shocked to find out I weighed close to 289. I am 5"6 and
have a big chest so I have always looked skinner then I actually weighing if
that makes any sense. Anyway I didnt want to hear the negative comments, be
judged or any of the other stuff, so I just didn't say a word and I have no
regrets about it!
Mel
Yeah, that's something I have always said to my husband.. that I will
make sure my kids know that I love them regardless of how they look,
or who they turn out to be.. they could be fat, thin, straight, gay,
smart, or less than.. and I want to make sure that I let them know
how much they are loved. I think the one good thing I have learned
from that experience is that I am much much more open minded in
regards to people's beliefs than they were... no way in heck would my
parents have a homosexual friend.. some of my best friends just
happen to be gay... no way would my parents go to dinner with someone
they didn't see as a social equal (for looks, or for other reasons) I
don't care.. So, I think it's made me a better person.
But yes! I love Divine Secrets!!!! Great movie!!
I know that, God willing, I won't always be the perfect mother.. but
if I can give my kids the ability to look beyond the 1st glance and
see people for who they are, I will have succeeded..
Trish
I feel you Trish. Have you seen the movie or read the book Divine secrets of
the Yaya sisterhood ? Thats kind of like me and my Mom. I think at the
end you are supposed to say, yes at times the Mom had been a terrible Mom, but
also at times the Mom had a terrible Mom, and our terrible days and moments are
not our whole selves. I have told my sister that I just hope to be less
crazy than my Mom and I hope my kids can be less crazy than me. Certain days
and
weeks I had a terrible Mom. I've been a terrible Mom, but I believe and hope
that its only been on certain hours and days. Maybe my kids can be terrible
parents only on certain minutes and hours. Weight is certainly a huge issue
where the terrible in people comes out. That is one thing I have kept totally
off limits with my 18 year old. By the time I was 15 or 16 my Mom was
hassling me about my weight. I never say a word to my 18 year old about her
size,
good, bad, or indifferent. I couldn't do her like my Mom did me because at 16 I
weighed up to 145 and my Mom at that time weighed about 125. My daughter
weighs way way less than me. But I would never ever want to do that to her even
if she weighed more than I do or even if whatever. -- Jody

New to the site.
Took a look at the posts the past week and it seems that peoples
postings get repeated often. Is there a way to just scan the

post because of the redundancies.
Also, I am getting thousands of emails. I checked the box in the

Open RNY 4/28. Lost weight until 6/9/03, then no weight loss since
then (4 weeks). Is this unusual? I'm getting about 60 gm protein and

I am extremely tired and have zero energy! Any suggestions
Congrats on the beginning of your new life.
Ask your doctor if he or or she has a list.
Things that I needed
1) chewable vitamins
2) pepside complete ac
3) soup no chunks-- Trader Joe's had good soups.
I did not need clothes for the hospital. I was to tired to change.

Okay well I am home from my PAT's and I thing everything is a go still. We are
having a lot of storms in Ohio which is causing power surges everywhere. So I
sat for over an hour in the exam room waiting for the doctor because the power
surges had cause the lab machines to go crazy. But the PAT's where painless and
easy so don't get too worked up about them. As usual everyone at BTC in
Columbus was great and very nice. Well only 2 weeks till I am in loserville.
Can't wait!

Hello Caroline,
I'm going to gush a little bit here, but I am in complete aaahhh of you. You
are a wealth of information and I enjoy reading your posts because I always
come away with something. For instance, I am going to order a polar bottle. I
checked it out on Ebay and it looks soooo cool.
Thanks,
Julie
Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a nice fourth. Today at Curves I
weighed myself (I was a little apprehensive as it's that time of the month for
me)
and according to their doctors scale I weigh 279, which is a 72 pound weight
loss!!! Next friday I have an appointment, so I'll get an official weight then
(as well as my first blood test since the surgery).
I'd just thought I would share with people "family" that understands the joy
of weight loss.
Take Care

Hi! My name is Kristi. I live in MN. I had gastric bypass (lap) on
September 26, 2002. Never in my life had I been so nervous and excited
about anything.
In 1999 I had thyroid cancer and gained a ton of weight, which I could NOT
afford to gain in the first place. I tried to lose it but you know how
that goes. Being the mother of 4 children and NEVER being comfortable to go
ANYWHERE with them, I decided I needed to do something. Just once I would
like to take these awesome kids to the beach and actually swim with them.
(of course that was only the beginning) Being overweight was running my
life. I HATED it.
My surgery went well. Of course I was selective about telling people. I
figured I'd make the decision whether or not to tell as the time came. My
oldest daughter (15) was so very supportive of and excited for me. Well the
first week I lost 12 pounds. Needless to say that was encouraging. The
weeks went along with daily weight loss...until October 26th. Exactly a
month to the day of my surgery.
On that horrible day, my 15 year old daughter was killed in a car accident.
My world could have easily ended right then and there. No longer did the
surgery matter....why would it. She was a big part of the reason I wanted
to have it. Anyways, due to depression, I quit eating. My weight loss
slowed tremendously. Frankly, I didn't even care. As the months passed, I
started to eat more and the pounds started coming off again. Physically I
was feeling better than I had in years.
Now for the reason I need help... Again my weight loss has STOPPED. As a
matter of fact, I have gained. I am scared to death. I have noticed an
increase in my appetite, I have also noticed that I can eat more food, and
that I am hungry sooner between meals than I have been in the past. I wake
in the middle of the night feeling like I am starving to death. I eat
animal crackers or dry granola by the handful when this happens. And I am
not just waking one time in the night, I am doing this all night long. Some
nights I see every hour.
I am not sure what to do. Its hard to know if this is depression or if I
have failed my surgery or what. I do know that I have VERY bloated
stomachaches almost daily, and I feel extremely gassy (is that a word?!) I
am almost afraid to go to the DR. I do however have an app. scheduled for
the end of the month.
Does anything I have told you sound familiar? Anyone?? Will I be my big
fat self again before long? I have only lost 70 lbs since my surgery almost
10 months ago. I still have about 38 lbs to go according to the "ideal
weight" chart.
My heart is so heavy.
Please help if you can.
Thank you so much.

Two weeks post op from my gastric Bypass and I have dropped from 336
to 304 and everything is infection free and no leaks. Just followed
the doc's advice and the nutrisionist's directions. Plus I have been
snagging ideas from this group :). All in all I am glad that I
elected to have this surgery performed. Who would've thought...32
pounds in 2 weeks?
I would like to say hello everyone of you and thank you for the
inspiration each of you are.

In a message dated 7/8/2003 8:32:45 AM Central Standard Time,
Today I received a copy of my psych eval from the psycholigist today. I'm
having problems trying to decide if it is in my favor or not. Any ideas on how
to tell which it is before I send it off to my surgeon?
